Art is a huge passion of mine. In 2016, I was awarded 3rd place in the Calgary Stampede Western Art Scholarship, I won $1,000 to put towards my education so I could better myself.
I believe my art and creativity is something that will be very beneficial to me in a classroom, as I am able to put a creative spin on many things. |
I received the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship from the Government of Alberta in 2016 after graduating High School. I received the maximum amount for all three years of High School because I kept my average each year above 80%. I believe this pertains to teaching, because I am dedicated to high achievement and striving for the best you can. This would be beneficial in the classroom so I can push my students to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve anything they put their minds to. This also relates to my dedication to life-long learning, as I see this as a huge academic success and I hold this to be very important. In addition to receiving this scholarship, I have received honour roll for 8 consecutive semesters in High School career, and several awards for excellence in art (Stampede scholarship, and Cardel Homes art scholarship).
Life-long learning and professional development is also mentioned in the standards for teachers in Alberta. |
The following letter is from Kellie Pierzchala, the volunteer resource coordinator for the Family Centre in Lethbridge AB. I have had the opportunity to volunteer on a regular and committed basis with the family centre in their Kids in the Kitchen program, where children are taught the basics of cooking and some easy things they can make for themselves and their families. Within this position, I am required to work alongside program coordinators, help plan "lessons" and recipes, as well as reflect on the day and the observations. With this volunteer position, I am required to also keep a standard of confidentiality for the families that use these services. This pertains to the standards for Alberta teachers and the huge importance of confidentiality within the classroom and the educational system. |
I have had the opportunity to work closely with my Mom and her day home families in the past. I have been able to really work on my skills and gain invaluable experience with early childhood education. Some families in particular have really had an impact on me, and I have been able to build so many great relationships with children and their families.
