During the course of this semester I had the opportunity to engage in this course on the philosophy of education. At first I was worried, because I have never seen myself as someone who can "do" philosophy... However, after engaging in various discussions and reading through the text I have come to a new understanding, and that is anyone can "do" philosophy! Even students can engage in philosophical thinking, using programs like Philosophy 4 Children- by simply asking why and letting your mind go to big ideas, you are starting to think philosophically! In addition to this, this course allowed me to develop an understanding of the major philosophies in education, analyze some of the current day connections and issues related to those, articulate a personal understanding of my own philosophy of education, and gain a deeper understanding of critical thinking. Throughout the course we completed four chapter analyses, reworked our own working philosophy of education and created a philosophy toolkit, and then engaged in a personal inquiry project based in our learning from the course.
